At the start of 2025, Strohm launched TCP Designer TM , a proprietary online tool developed to help companies design and engineer thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) systems for their projects, supported by our decades of expertise.
Since its launch, 17 clients have adopted TCP Designer TM , using the tool to evaluate TCP's applicability across different offshore and onshore projects.
TCP Designer TM is a web-based tool that simplifies the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage of projects, enabling engineers to evaluate the suitability of TCP for various applications quickly and accurately. By inserting parameters such as water depth, pressure, temperature, and installation methods, engineers can generate precise datasheets with specifications including pipe size, weight, stiffness, and minimum bend radius.
The tool simplifies decision-making, reduces design iteration time, and supports the adoption of cost-effective, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant TCP solutions in energy infrastructure, and other industrial projects.
What's new
In January 2026, a year after the tool's launch, Strohm has developed a number of updates to the tool, designed to give engineers more control:
Advanced subsea analysis
Comprehensive on-bottom stability (OBS) calculations have been integrated into the tool, including the use of weight coating and ballast. This not only ensures pipe stability on the seafloor, but it also improves installation calculations and increases the number of feasible installation strategies.
Seamless modeling
To integrate effortlessly with existing project workflows, TCP Designer TM now generates OrcaFlex outputs (Excel files). This means that data can be automatically imported into dynamic analysis software, increasing efficiency, and speeding up multi-platform engineering work.
Increased onshore functionality
Recognizing the growing demand for TCP in onshore projects, the tool's scope has been expanded with new features, including UV-resistant coating options and a workflow tailored to land-based applications, making TCP Designer TM more practical for onshore projects.
Future-ready fluid support
To align with our company's ambitions of enabling the energy transition, hydrogen has been added as a fluid option. This allows engineers to design TCP systems for low-carbon fuel transport and ensuring TCP Designer TM remains at the forefront of future infrastructure planning.
